More Seeds and Weeds

Mustard seed grows to become a tree for shelter

Pastor Jerry continued his message of Jesus and his parables regarding "The Kingdom of God."  He was reading from Matthew 13:31-33, 42-52.

31 Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field, 32 which indeed is the least of all the seeds; but when it is grown it is greater than the herbs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches.”

The farmers understood about land and seeds and also weeds.

The first story was the tiny Mustard seed that grows and becomes like a tree sheltering those to come to find rest.

Perhaps it is like unto a small church that reaches out and takes in the lost where they can discover “hope, love and peace.”

Today’s church bulletin had an interesting quote: “We can become so comfortable with our inner landscape that we consistently uproot the “new life” God is trying to nurture in us.  Growing into God means learning new discernment and some times being slower to weed our spiritual gardens.”

This is a strange and alien world we live in.  We ask “what is this world coming to?” as we scan the news and view the media.  There is much suffering and heart ache.

All events in history are defined as either BC (before Christ) or AD (After his death and resurrection)  In AD God came into the world as flesh in His Son Jesus.  Jesus ushered in a new age and the future begins NOW because He has promised us eternal life and He is preparing many “rooms” for us in heaven.

Jesus continued his stories with leaven, a lost gold coin, a treasure in a field, a pearl of great price and a drag net of fishes, all likened to the Kingdom of God.

Then He asked his disciples if they understood and they replied, “YES.”

Jesus encouraged his disciples to seek and find and to search the scriptures for in them you find life.

For the most part they realized there was a deeper meaning to these parables and knew that even in small things, God will bless and cause growth to come.

Jesus said, The Kingdom of God is within you !!

May we realize that God is not discouraged with the size of the seed, but He does expect it to grow.

Pastor asked, “Do you get it?’  May we answer “YES, we understand.”
