Changing Gods

As I prepared the lesson for our Wednesday morning prayer meeting, God gave me this direction.  For some citizens perhaps it is time to change gods.

Without realizing it, many today are serving Satan because there are only two choices. Who you will serve?  If you are not serving Christ Jesus, guess who you are serving?  

 

Let us consider some scriptural stories of those who changed their god. 

Ruth chapter 1: Because there was a famine in the land, Naomi, her husband Elimelek, and their two sons, fled to the land of Moab where there was food.  

Now Elimelek, Naomi’s husband, died, leaving her with her two sons. The sons married Moabite women, one named Orpah and the other Ruth. After they had lived there about ten years, both Mahlon and Kilion also died, and Naomi was now without her two sons and her husband. 

Naomi heard that now things were better in the land of Judah, so she decided to return to her own country. She kissed her daughters-in-laws and with tears told them to go back to their homes, marry again and be blessed.  Orpah one of the daughters decided it was best to stay in Moab and she went home, but Ruth clung to Naomi and declared:

“Entreat me not to leave you, Or to turn back from following after you;
For wherever you go, I will go; And wherever you lodge, I will lodge;
Your people shall be my people, And your God, shall be my God.
Where you die, I will die, And there will I be buried.
The Lord do so to me, and more also, If anything but death parts you and me.”

When Naomi saw that Ruth was determined to go with her; was willing to give up her old ways and old gods and to worship the True God, Naomi relented.  Ruth was willing to change gods. 

So Naomi left the land of Moab, with Ruth the Moabitess her daughter-in-law and returned to the land of Judah. Now they came to Bethlehem at the beginning of barley harvest. 

The best laid plans do not always work out - -.  We all know about things that happen to derail us at times.  However in the long run – God’s plan is for the best. 

The Children of Israel had settled down as they waited to enter the Promised Land. Some of the people began to serve other gods their neighbors worshipped.  Joshua their leader was not pleased and told them - -  “You had better decide to change gods.” 

Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil to you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom you will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell: but As for me and my house, we shall serve the Lord.

The Apostle Paul was on his way to kill Christians when he suddenly was struck down off his horse.  He loved God, but he hated Jesus.  A voice from heaven told him to Change directions and serve Jesus.  He continually stated God put me into the ministry.  

Each of us will find a time in life we must make decisions which way will we chose?

Joshua said in Deuteronomy 30:19 I call heaven and earth as witness this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live - - - 

When you chose Jesus to be your Lord, - - you are choosing eternal LIFE.
