BELIEVE - - PRAYER IS ALMOST ENOUGH

This is a digest of Pastor Jerry’s sermon that began with the quote, “Actions speak louder than Words.”

It has been said that civilization has failed, but actually it is man who has failed.

John Wesley wrote a letter to a young girl, Miss March.  He told her to keep close to the rule and our guide and never be afraid to expect too much.

Past theologians warned about the danger of going too far and believing too much.

Perhaps the real danger is in NOT believing enough.

In the 40’s and 50’s there were many healing revivals; Aimee Semple McPherson, Oral Roberts, Kathryn Kuhlman, and others.  They believed God and expected MORE.

There is a grave danger in believing too little.  Jesus said, “All things are possible to him that believeth,” and to “Ask and you shall receive if you have faith.”

Pastor laid out Believing Faith with four points.

Belief in God’s Son; The stores are full of self help books and how to succeed and have victory and a good future.  We have the resurrection and an empty tomb.  Jesus sent us forth to work the works that he did.

Belief in God’s Truth; Stay connected to the vine.  Cut flowers once disconnected from the roots will begin to die. We must be deeply rooted IN Christ and in his truth and then bring Christ to the next generation.  We are only one generation away from extinction.

Belief in God’s Power;   The gift is still in our possession to heal the sick, and it is His will to heal; and there are many types of healing.  When we are equipped with God’s power there is more possible than we thought we could do.

Belief in God’s Providence;  God’s incidents are not coincidences.  God will bring others unexpectedly into your path to bring comfort and help.  God is still at work even in times of trouble and sorrow.

Many things that seem to be accidental are divine providences.  They are not random events and God is at work behind the scenes to do his will.

Jesus prayed in the garden to allow this cup to pass, but he continued in prayer, “Not my will but thine be done.”  His death led to the resurrection and our new life in Him.

Believe – and never be afraid to expect too much from God.
