Giving of a different kind.

Happy Coats and sweaters

Victory church that I visited a week ago, announced that at one of their free lunches for the needy, a gentleman came to receive the food and he was barefoot. Besides warm sweaters, jackets they now were requesting gently used tennis shoes, and clean socks. I knew they wanted warm clothing and I had prepared two large bags and had brought them with me; one with men’s long sleeved flannel shirts and the other bag filled with ladies warm pants and sweaters.

This week, my husband went through all his sweaters and handed me a large armful from his closet, but no available shoes.

I tend to be a person to find a way when there seems not to be a way, so I visited one of our local thrift shops and was able to purchase a very nice pair of men’s tennis shoes for one dollar.

Sunday at my church I was allowed to make an announcement. I stated that usually we like to send money to help the victims of floods, fires, earthquakes, tsunamis etc, but we often neglect those who are cold and hungry in our own community. I told them about the little church not far from us who are feeding the poor on Thursdays and Fridays, and the man who arrived with no shoes. Then I asked my friends to bring shoes and sweaters next Sunday and I would see that they get delivered.

One man told me he would bring a bag next week. YES!!

My church has a early service so, after my church I went to the other church and left my contributions.

I am not one to volunteer to help serve the lunch, but there are other ways to give and I am finding this to be one of those ways.
