Music Makes the Soul Rejoice

Our family looked forward to the monthly Musicals at the Oakland Auditorium in the early 1960s. Some times it was a Family group, and other times it was a variety of Men’s quartets. All the popular groups were happy to visit our city and to sing for us.

The Programs were free, but an offering was taken, and each group had their records for sale in the lobby. The offers were $5.00 for one record or $10 for three, and who can resist a bargain?

Our family loved any and all music, so we gathered a collection of records to play on our stereo at home.

The walls of our house resounded with the sweet tunes, about the Lord Jesus and about heaven and going home.

Music communicates to the soul, and the Bible tells us that the Angels sing the praises of God.

Singing is not only allotted to us as mortals, and the angels, but all the earth shall praise Him.

Even the trees sing:

1 Chronicles 16:33 Then shall the trees of the wood sing out at the presence of the LORD

And the Mountains and hills will sing:

Isaiah 55:12 For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.

The rocks and stones will cry out if we fail to praise the Lord and sing and shout unto Him.

Luke 19:37 *40 And when he was come nigh, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen; Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples. And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.

It is amazing that we find that God also sings and rejoices over his children.

Zephaniah 3:17 The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

Isaiah 62:5 As a young man marries a maiden, as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so will your God rejoice over you.

All earth and heaven shall resound with the Joys of the Lord as we echo, “Praise the Lord for He is worthy to be praised.”

Thank you for the reminder that not only do we rejoice in God, but He, amazingly, rejoices in us.

I love, love to sing! It often lifts me up to see the Lord's face when few other things can. Thanks for sharing these scriptures.

It is quite overwhelming to think about and hear His song over us. What a magnificent God!
