Water From a Rock

Moses and Water from a Rock

With our current water shortage here in California, we are thankful for reports that the pressure system is lifting enough to allow some rain at the end of this week.

We have been speaking and saying “Let the rain and snow clouds come.”  Others are also speaking and agreeing so we are not alone.

Lest we get puffed up and begin to think that we are the one running the show, may we always remember that although God uses people, He ONLY is the one with power and all authority.

Understand for the sake of Ten Righteous people God will do wonders and exploits.

Deuteronomy 4:35 Unto thee it was shown, that thou might know that the Lord he is God; there is none else beside him.

I was reminded of Moses out in the wilderness with the rebellious and complaining Children of Israel.

You can’t blame the people too much, because their children and flocks had no water and they were very thirsty.  What they did wrong was to criticize God’s man of the hour and were ready to stone him.  Then God gave Moses explicit instructions what to do.

Exodus 17:5-6 And the Lord said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with you of the elders of Israel; and your rod, wherewith you smote the river, take in your hand, and go.  Behold, I will stand before you there upon the rock in Horeb; and you shall smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

(There was another occasion with a different set of directions)
Numbers 20:8  Take the rod, and gather the assembly together, you, and Aaron your brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and you shall bring forth to them water out of the rock: so you shall give the congregation and their beasts drink.

(Moses decided to go it alone without following God’s instructions) (Notice that this time, God said SPEAK not Smite.)
11  And Moses was angry with the people and lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice:    (Moses paid dearly for this act of disobedience)

* * * * *

So what I am saying is to keep speaking to the pressure system to release its hold on the storms, BUT in addition - - To speak to the rocks up in the mountains above Lake Oroville and tell springs to open up and water to gush forth into Lake Oroville!

May we be brave enough to appear foolish to man, but wise unto God.

Amen, Hazel. Feeling the same effects in AZ. Talk about consequences! Moses being banned from stepping foot into the Promise Land is a great example... lest we forget.

Great post, Hazel. We were very glad to get some rain (and snow) up here in the mountains. We are VERY dry - and it scares me as we approach fire season. Last year we were evacuated for four days for a wildfire that came way-too-close.

But, as you said, let us never forget our Lord, who is in charge, both in the weather that comes to our earth, and in the storms or sunshine that comes into our circumstances. In all, He reigns...

GOD BLESS!
