Thou Shalt NOT Commit Adultery

 

 

Our Bible Study continued with the 10 Commandments and we are addressing number seven, Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery, Exodus 20:14

Our teacher, Linda asked us to compare and contrast the scripture found in Leviticus 20: 10-15.  This scripture includes all types of sexual relations with family members, and ends by saying; “They have committed perversion.”  The writing continues to include homosexuality and bestiality; saying all who are guilty of such should be put to death. 

Genesis 1:26-28 In the beginning when God created male and female, His intention for the marriage relationship, was one man and one woman until death do them part.

Genesis 2:22-25, The man shall cleave to his wife and they two shall become one flesh.

This is the Biblical view while our government has seen fit to say otherwise using the opinions and dishonest ideas of man.

It was not God’s intent that the marriage relationship should break down, but because of the hardness of men’s hearts divorce was granted.  Deuteronomy 24:1.

Divorce is especially difficult for the children, as they often feel that it was their fault and many carry that innocent burden of guilt for years. 

What did Jesus say: Matthew 19:2-6  Have you not read God made them male and female Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.” However because of the hard headedness of mans hearts, divorce was granted.

Jesus went on to say:  Matthew 5:27-28. “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Jesus was speaking about guarding our eyes, thoughts and mind to abstain from lust and sinful desire. 

 

Jesus was warning about twisted thinking to decide to sin, and then ask forgiveness.  What a deceitful heart.  

Paul condemned certain lifestyles; 1 Corinthians 6:9-20 (NKJV)  Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites,  nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not! ¹⁶ Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.” ¹⁷ But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.

¹⁸ Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. ¹⁹ Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? ²⁰ For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

It impossible to live in a vacuum, and we are not the judge when some dissolve their marriage and unite with another mate. 

 

Our father is a God of Love and we must not question his grace and Mercy. 

So much heart ache is brought about from separation and divorce.  No one is left unhurt while others resume a Christian Life Style and are blessed by God.

The destruction of Marriage relationships is often the consequence of decisions.  The old adage is true that we often “reap what we sow.” 

Can God forgive an adulterous affair?  Of course He can and will if there is a repentant heart. 

We are reminded of the woman caught in adultery.  We ask where was the man?

The pious men brought her to Jesus and told him that she must be stoned.  Jesus stooped down and began to write in the dust.  (What was He writing?)  We can only surmise that Jesus was listing the names of those present who had committed the very sin they were accusing of the woman. 

 

Jesus answer was plain, “Let him who is without sin, cast the first stone.” Naturally all the men left.   John 8: 10-11 Jesus asked the woman, where are those accusers of yours?  Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”

 

Notice the kicker – forgiven with a stipulation – not to repeat the sin what ever it was.

Understand that you can’t go back and undo the past –

but the thing to do - - is to pick up your bed and walk.
