The Mountain of Fire

Thunder, Fire, Smoke and a Loud Voice

 

During our Bible Study, I took notes and present a digested lesson here for you.

In Genesis chapter 12, God told Abraham to leave his home and family and God would give him a promised land.  The Children of Israel were leaving Egypt to fulfill that promise to Abraham.

Exodus 19 reminds us of the 3 month journey to reach Mount Sinai.  The priests were to prepare themselves, wash themselves clean, be upstanding, and holy.  God said, be ready for on the 3^rd day He would come down on the mountain.  The people were to be prepared, to wash their clothes, and be clean.  Moses gave us the written word, and Jesus is the Living Word.

On the mountain, God answered with a voice that caused the people to be terrified and fearful.  They had been in Egypt many years, and were steeped in Egyptian culture including the worship of their gods.

Jehovah God was new to most of them, and the fact that He was a living God frightened them.  God came down on the mountain in power shaking it with thunder and a loud voice.

If you grew up in America, you have a culture from your family, school, friends, and church.  It may not be with “Power” until you have a personal experience with Jesus and receive his spiritual connection.

The Children of Israel thought they were entitled.  There was story after story of God’s provision, protection and deliverance, yet they murmured and complained.

From the Mount Sinai, was thunder, lightening, smoke, fire and a voice.  The Priests blew the trumpet and the people waited in awe.  God instructed Moses to warn the people not to touch the mountain or come too close or they would die.

The Priests sanctified themselves, lest the Lord break through upon them.  Moses and Aaron could come up but not the priests. 

 

Moses went down and spoke to the frightened people.  They said to Moses, you talk to God for us, and tell us what He says.  Their hearts were hardened and they desired someone to represent them.

They remembered the variety of food in Egypt and forgot the hard labor and bad treatment they endured as slaves.  They were looking at their past instead of forward to a glorious future.   God reminded them to remember what He did to the Egyptians, and it is best to serve the Living God.

Acts chapter two, On the day of Pentecost, there was an outbreak of the Holy Spirit.  Seek first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness and all these other things shall be added unto you.

How desperate are we for a touch from our God and for His Holy Spirit?
