Abide in Jesus courtesy photobucket.com |
Many are selecting a word - -
good words all, and I pondered if there was a word that should be mine for this
year. As I considered - - finally was
dropped into my heart the word “ABIDING.”
God has been speaking to me
that I have left Him to the end of the day all my life to read my Bible. Now for me to be abiding in the vine, I must
change my old habits and begin my day with the Bible first, then my usual
devotionals that are my morning habit.
If we are ABIDING in Jesus,
his spirit will abide in us. As I opened
my Bible this morning I was reading about David and his anointing to become
King.
1Samuel 16:13
Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his
brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward.
1Samuel 17:45
Then said David to the Philistine, You come to me with a sword, and with
a spear, and with a shield: but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts,
the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
David was the least of his
brothers and his brothers called him a smarty pants when he asked questions
about the giant Goliath. No one thought
he could do anything good.
How about YOU? Are you ever in the place where you believe
about yourself what others have said? Are
self doubts plaguing you?
It is time to change our
thinking and our believing and to pick up our five stones and get them ready to
use.
Pick up Your Five Stones
1. David sang while he tended his sheep - -
perhaps we need to sing unto our lord.
2. David communed to himself with encouragement
- - perhaps we can speak to our self with positive words.
3. David walked in his anointing. May we pick up our mantel and know God is
with us.
4. When trouble came David was not afraid. Fear has no part in us.
5. David knew in his own strength He was
helpless, but he depended on his God. So
can you.
First things first – Decide
to Abide in Christ and He in you.

Abiding is a great word to guide you, and I posted this morning about the word I chose, plus words others chose, so I will add Abiding to the list.
This year I chose a Bible verse instead of one word. (1 Peter 3:15) Like you I want to focus on the Word.
Blessings!
My favorite hero of the faith! King David is our example and lesson. May we be so bold with the enemy that stands before us...
Hazel, what a great word to focus on. I chose "Faith", "And without faith it is impossible to please God." (Heb. 11:6). I want my life to please Him in every way, in every day. May we both grow this year as we remain focused on Him! Blessings!
Wonderful choice of words Hazel. Love this: First things first – Decide to Abide in Christ and He in you.
Thank you so much for you kind words of encouragement...oh, I look forward to that final triumphant return of Christ when the King of Kings rides victoriously before the whole world and His enemies fall before Him and finally see Him for who he is!Until that day, His prayer warriors and believers must ahve His story ever ready on our tongues to share his good news and offer salvation to the lost..God bless us all with the faith, courage and boldness to stand!
Abiding is a good word for 2014. My word is "Kindness" from Proverbs 31 where it says "the law of kindness was in her mouth". That's what I desire for this year.
Hazel, this was such an inspiring post. I love your *word* - it's a really powerful one. And, as you now know, my word is JOY, and I think it's a rather difficult word for me. But, as I read your post, I was thinking that God is only asking me to pick up my first stone - sing unto Him - and He will do the rest!
GOD BLESS!
Great suggestions, and great word. Thanks for this, Hazel.
I haven't chosen a word for this year, but in this day and age - i think ENCOURAGE would be great this year. i just need to encourage my brothers and sisters in Christ.
thanks for all you do to encourage others
@spreadingJOY
Yes, Hazel. First things first. And doesn't that seem to help make the day go better when we start and stay and finish the day with Jesus? Our 2014 one word at Longings End is INTENTIONAL. May I intentionally abide in Jesus at all times. Blessings...
