Follow Jesus

Sunday Morning sermon at Open Door Church was brought by Pastor Rodney.  The scriptures found in Luke’s gospel chapter nine were placed on the screen making viewing easy for the congregation.

(Luke 9:57-62) 9:57 “And as they were going along the road, someone said to Him, “I will follow You wherever You go.” 58 And Jesus said to him, “The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” 59 And He said to another, “Follow Me.” 60 But he said, “Permit me first to go and bury my father.” But He said to him, “Allow the dead to bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim everywhere the kingdom of God.” 61 And another also said, “I will follow You, Lord; but first permit me to say good-bye to those at home.” 62 But Jesus said to him, “No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” Luke 9:57-62 (from NASB).

Jesus was calling those men who were walking with him to “follow.”

There were requirements - - -

1.      A change of habits was needed.
2.      Enthusiasm was not enough
3.      Dedication was required.
4.      Faithfulness to stick with it was necessary.
5.      Ability to stand firm until the end was important.

The Word of God is sure and steadfast, faithful and true.

Do you hunger and thirst after righteousness?  Jesus is able to satisfy.

Jesus is still calling for followers.  The one question is:

What will you do with Jesus?

What we do with Jesus is the most important decision we will ever make.

Such powerful verses, especially that, "Let the dead bury the dead". He's first, even if we have to do it while we carry the other burdens of life. Excellent reminder. Thanks, Hazel.
